    First!!
Quite a funny intro and good topics and statements. I would have send you my application for Garage419's invitational race but unfortunately I live in europe...

QOD: I would spend the same money on the panamera like I would spend on an Audi A8 3.2FSI. No cent more.
Over 120k $ are insane for this car...

  • evilchild85 wrote on July 29, 1:32 pm

i think the panamera should start at 37k for the v6 and 127k for the v8 twin turbo it be sooo much better and cheaper

  • CamaroJoe1987 wrote on July 29, 1:56 pm

i would pay 50k for the car, your buying the name, not the car, so its going to be pricy, they are out of their damn minds if they really want all that money for a V6, i would be better off with a truck

Good topics this week, and for once I agree with your take on something. American brands have been missing out on a market for years all because they're afraid of alienating their core buyers. Let's hope the rumored Mustang SVO sparks some creative thinking over at Chevy and Dodge.

I can't say with any certainty what I'd pay for a Porsche Panamera as I think we've yet to see what the car looks like, or is really capable of. $130K is really steep though, and I can't imagine the six cylinder sedan that would make me part with that kind of money even if I had it. I can only hope that Inside Line are talking out their bottoms...

Panamera V6? For the Porsche badge and quality...I think they can charge around $60k - $65k.

Around $115K for a fully beefed up version.

No Cobalt? Did you break the news to Derek D?

  • NIUJager wrote on July 29, 4:33 pm

Buy 1 get 1 free cars and trucks? you should be able to drive off the lot with whatever car you can fit in the back of your new truck. In that case, I am off to get my new F350/Bullitt Mustang combo meal.

Also, if they are doing $129 a month for the Edge, what do you think the chances of that carrying over to the CX7? Not that I do not like the Edge, but the turbo 4-cyl sounds more appealing at this moment.

I think I am just about the only person in the world who likes the Panamera the way it is. Of course there is now way on this earth that I would pay that supposed price for it, but starting in the low $60k range wouldn’t be too crazy. Fully loaded between $100k and $110k depending on the options (carbon ceramic brakes, AWD, etc.)

Well, with Ford announcing that the future Mustang will get a turbo V6…GM better be upping their game.

The fact that nobody could get all the performance upgrades on the smaller engine cars has always perplexed me. Regarding the comments about buying a V6 Camaro, if it had all the performance goodies that the V8 counterparts had, of course I would; especially if it was turbocharged. Think about it…lighter and extremely cheap to tune, not to mention better economy!

We are in a new age; Muscle Cars are merely a sales-veil now. Most cars that pose themselves as muscle cars nowadays are far more; for one, they can handle a corner. A V6 Camaro puts itself into the 350z weight range. It will be a bit heavier, but not by much. In fact, I think Hyundai nailed their engine choices with their new sports car. They have a turbocharged 4 cylinder as an option. Seriously, why does CM not put the Solstice/Ski engine in the base model? The rumours of a 300hp Solstice coming out proves that that sort of engine can put out the power required.

Imagine the base Camaro with an extremely light (all aluminium or something) turbocharged 4, which had 300hp. The car would be around 200 pounds lighter and how much more balanced…near 50/50? Put a track-pack option out there (like they have for the 350z) and I would guarantee sales figures through the roof for the Camaro brand. It is a win-win that = less weight, which = better economy, handling and acceleration The hardcore’s would still get their V8, so there would be nothing lost.

Let’s not forget the majority of the current line of Mustangs sold are all the V6 (some figures I looked up are in the 70% range). I know up here in Canada there is the Pony Package option that even puts a duel exhaust option on the car (this only adds a couple grand money wise). In fact, if you know nothing about cars, there is no way to tell the difference. I love that Camaro design, but getting the one that has all the handling goodies requires too much cash for merely a Camaro.

As for the Panamera pricing, I do not give a *$&@!

  • fsjgw wrote on July 29, 10:48 pm

No way a Panamera 6 cylinder for $50k, outrageous. Remember new sheet metal for the CLS in 2 years. BMW will have a new 4 door coupe, Audi not far behind. I love Porsche, but who sold the executives the business plan for this car? Even VW has a 4 door coupe now. I question the direction (styling of this car) of Porsche. The Cayenne, love it or hate it was the right decision ( I kind of always liked it-of course the Turbo version, now the GTS too). A sedan is needed, but sometimes you have to lose the 911 looks, and this is a case for a new design direction.

  • pulloa wrote on July 30, 12:57 am

first off, doesnt the boxster or caymen start way less than the asking price for the base panamera? the car looks like shit, literally, and absolutely theres no way that a grocery-getter with 4 different versions cost so much with big gaps in between each model. not even the cayenne costs that much and thats a much better "family" vehicle. very disappointed with porsche. SHAME ON YOU PORSCHE.

  • ctstone21 wrote on July 30, 2:14 am

First I wouldnt buy a 4 door porsche ever, not even if they sold it for 30-35k.

But to the question Matt. I would say a reasonable price for the Panamera 6 would be around the 60K mark. The only reason why its that much is because your not going to be able to buy a new porsche car for under 40k. And that the Cayman S, which has 295 horses, is the closest porsche(performance wise) to what the Panamera 6 will produce. That is the only reason I say 60K. Really it should be around 45-50k but Porsche would freak out if you could buy 300 of their horses for under 55k. Hell they would literally crap their pants for 55k.

If the Panamera does come with the twin 10, then maybe, just maybe it could be priced about 150k.

Porsche if you want to sell a car that can hold 5 people sell it for under a 100k. Oh wait you do its the Cayenne Turbo for 98k. And it has 500 horses. Which would kick the shit out of your little peice of shit panamera.

matt, as you already know i work at a Ford dealer so it is interesting to see the topic of converstion regarding trucks, days in inventory, and overall big vehicle sales. our store is predominantly a truck store and we have seen a decline in recent months of consumer truck sales, especially in diesels. with that said, this is the time to buy a truck. i just bought an 08 Expedition EL for 25g's that was a used rental. our dealership took a 4000 loss on the used rig i bought because it was in inventory for so long. anything used over 30 days old, the dealership will start paying interest on through the financing company that they use. the new vehicles come with "hold back" which is a small amount to help with flooring costs. if you have a popular car like an accord or camry, holdback is sufficient. holdback isn't so good on a 6.4 twin turbo diesel f350.
also it's funny to note that farley and mullaly of Ford decided to keep the name "Fiesta" for it's new subcompact arriving soon as it has a great worldwide presence even though the name conjurs up only bad memories of cheap junk here in the states

  • MattF G419 wrote on July 30, 12:27 pm

Interesting stuff... I didn't know about the interest if the car sits on the lot for more than 30 days... Now is definitely the time to buy a truck though.

  • fsjgw wrote on July 30, 7:47 pm

Fiesta was not junk, it was a fun little car. I have been trying to find one, but no luck. I did see one last week, and it was in v good shape for a 28 year old vehicle. Having said that I think Ford should have kept the Verve name. Is this going to be the 500/Montego name change again? After a couple years call it the Escort, or Aspire, or Festiva (yes I know Focus was the Escort replacement). Why resurrect all these old names Ford?

  • apathyfades wrote on July 30, 1:41 pm

There is no question. The Panamera will not sell. Period. Porsche is out of their minds because they will invest all this R&D and production volume into a car that will not leave a single dealer lot. This leads me to believe that the rumor is completely false. Porsche will not invest into a project that will yield a 100% loss.

  • AWD ATTK wrote on July 30, 6:36 pm

Porsche is out of the hole, but with the companies decisions and this new sedan being released, it still seems like they have that same mindset they had when they announced the Cayenne.

Pontiac G8 GT > Porsche Panamera

  • slomofo wrote on July 30, 8:11 pm

G8 GT > Panamera is a little optimistic. maybe the new Aston or the Maserati being better. i love american V8's as much as the next guy but let's face it, it's all about a total package and experience with cars these days. the G8 will never come close in the luxury segment. it's not made to be a luxo-car. with that said, the Panamera may be the best thing since sliced bread, or it may go the way of the VW Phaeton. we just don't know. of course everyone heckled the idea of the Cayenne as well. i love euro cars but Porsche needs to step into the real world in terms of exterior design. the 911 sillhouette is sexy but very dated. they need to step it up

  • Charioteer wrote on July 31, 12:34 pm

Ive never heard of anyone saying how theyve been trying to find a Ford Fiesta. Now Ive seen everything.

  • joethemodel wrote on July 31, 4:30 pm

Okay Matt, I would probably pay about 60k for the Porsche Panamera. Very ugly, and a big rip off for 120k.

  • BenHunt wrote on August 11, 11:10 pm

    Matt..
I agree with you.. the V6 camaro.. needs to have a track pack oppion. with all the good racey stuff.. and GM is thinking about putting the 2.0 DI tubo in it.. at 280hp. but I think that engine doesn't have enough low end power for the 4 seater. have you tryed the G8 gt yet?.. thats a car. that will save Pontaic.
    by the way..
    I wouldn't pay 10 bucks.. for a 4 door porsche!
