    First!!!
Nice episode. You both had some nice thoughts!!!

QOD: I don't care if my Ferrari would have a Hybrid systems as long as it is for saving gas without reducing the engine quality and power. The only sacrifice the last years was the design which becomes so bad. The 575 Maranello was a great looking car but the 599GTB looks bad and the California looks just ugly. So they should build beautiful cars like the 430 and reduce the need for gas with a hybrid and I will be lucky!

Hey Matt do you cut your go-tee to look like the Garage419 emblem on purpose???

  • MattF G419 wrote in reply on July 22, 4:01 pm

the real question is, is the logo designed after my goatee?

  • andrew_f wrote in reply on July 23, 4:58 pm

    yes it is.

Its too bad about Nopi, I think.
I just like car-culture and motorsports, period. So I do think its sad (and perhaps a scary wake-up call) that we're seeing economic and environmental changes affecting the nature or car-culture across the board. So whether they did help some manufacturers peddle trinkets or not...I dont care; Im positive that the main reason that scene exists is because of passion. I personally wouldnt drop $80K into a Civic, but Id still like to have an Avalanche on 33" mudders for when I go camping (or for whenever I feel like rolling in it)....so Im equally stupid...and therefore I cant cast judgement. I feel bad for them' just as I would if the Gumballers, Solo2 Racers, Baja Racers, or anyone else had a rock of their community crumble.

Thoughts on QOD is simple: Ferrari needs to stick to their heart, and that’s racing...thats what Enzo loved and prioritized. In fact he simply sold cars in order to support the racing (right?). So, Im not saying no to hybrids at all....I'm only saying that they should deploy technology only if its been blessed and approved by a major sanctioning body like the FIA or the ACO. If they release a hybrid system for a road car (powertrain, regen braking, etc) whose purpose has nothing to do with their racing activities (not even as R&D/testing)...then they need to scrap it because theyd be stepping away from the core of their brand and legacy. They should carry this attitude into the future regardless of when new technology comes out.

I agree with the last post regarding Ferrari, but with that said, didn’t Formula 1 Racing say by 2013 they will have some sort of hybrid system? What if Ferrari’s technology is a mirror of that?

  • musiclife8871 wrote on July 23, 1:40 am

Of course Ferrari can make a hybrid. What wrong with a great company trying to keep up with the times and branch out? Let Ferrari make a hybrid car and then wait and see what other amazing products they have for us 50 years from now. Ferrari makes great products and we should allow them to continue too. Ferrari will will make great products as long as we allow them to. I for one am curious to see what they will produce for us in even 20 years time.

  • phinz wrote on July 23, 7:57 am

The logical step, with F1 announcing a move toward hybrid systems, is for Ferrari to develop these systems. If it's beautiful like a Ferrari should be and performs like a Ferrari should, then it doesn't matter what turns the tires. A well-done hybrid could be quicker *and* faster than any gas-only engine. I say hell yeah, I'd love to see a Ferrari hybrid. It's a British hybrid, and all the attendant and inevitable electrical gremlins, that I fear.

So much for ever fullfilling my dream of watching an actual taping of Top Gear.

Hybrid F1 racing? For a sport being criticized for not having enough lead changes or passing, how will having even fewer pit stops go over?

Let's see what happens with Ferrari's 'KERS' regenerative braking system when it's finalized.

    great episode!!!

    Ferrari....
If I had to choose between a Hybrid Ferrari and No Ferrari I'll keep driving my Holden!!

  • supramike wrote on July 24, 1:01 am

look the only ppl that really care about their Ferrari's being a V12 9000rpm screamer r the purists, 2 me fast is fast and a car doesnt have to have a V12 or a V10 2 be kool. dont get me wrong i love hearing and c a v12 blast down the road but i dont think it'd make much of a diff if they got the same performance or better with something else even if it has 2 be some kinda hybrid system.

I just heard about the issues that NOPI is having. I used to race in the NDRA Pro Street Tire segment in 04 and 05 and basically you would have to be a major asshat to mess up such a good thing. It isnt like they had to go into their own pockets to fund these events, they had major sponsors like Microsoft, Lucas Oil and many others. Basically the people running this whole operation get my douche canoe of the year award...... So who do you think will be picking up the slack as far as the import drag racing series?? I find that BOTI will struggle with this.... I just think they will run it into the ground just as NOPI did.. NHRA... I know a lot of the bigger shops MVP Titan and the like could easily go over there but the small start ups will not have the amount of financial backing it takes to follow a series in the NHRA....

As far as your QOD - Ferrari and Hybrid dont really go together.. Please stick with what you know... I'll take high reving V12s thank you very much....

On a personal note I just discovered you guys this week and watched all of the episodes so far, but now for some constructive criticism Matt the shows where you discuss the latest automotive news and debates aspects there of is great keep up the good work there but please for the love of god get a hold of all the episodes of Top Gear even the ones from the early 90s and watch and learn how Jeremy Clarkson reviews a car because honestly br you just aren't that great at it.

Keep up the good work guys.....

i was watching these episodes and was entertained. However, i was watching the episode about NOPI problems. I was pretty surprised to hear the comment Davey Johnson made about mexicans manufacturing parts for edelbrock. Maybe the next subject should've been about how U.S. companies outsource jobs to other countries because they know they can get the same quality if not better for less cost.
