The Garage

Car enthusiasts do their own research through the forums, blogs, and magazines. Garage419 isn't here to be the source of car information like CNN is for current events. Debates, biased reviews, and straight forward interviews are just some of the things to expect on '419.

Yo Matt and G419/NNN Crew: This format is kickin (so long as you get these things to the track/street after the dyno); Im really loving the behind-the-wheel test drive thing...so keep it up and keep your program evolving in this direction. I havent been a daily watcher until now so I dont know if youve been reviewing cars (from behind-the-wheel) for awhile or not, but the last machine I remember you driving was the Cayman GTR (badass machine - but even then...you couldnt really open her up). That being said, MORE TEST DRIVE REVIEWS PLEASE. Dont sweat any haters. Youre doing fine. Invest in some camera vehicle mounts (exterior and interior) and some insurance, get some bigger sponsors, drive the cars HARD, and be brutally honest and objective. Now youre in Top Gear territory. Youre like a budding Clarkston, just with a shaved head and sideburns. With your continued growth...who needs American Top Gear? We've got G419.
So keep it up. Kick ass. Looking forward to whatever is coming down the pipeline.

10 "real"magazines and shows picked the evo over the sti, but i guess if you are going to conduct all you test inside some dingy garage the sti would win. you know u read all the reviews, you could have said the ayc makes the evo blow the doors off the sti on road courses. And when you pulled up in the beginning u should have said "65 cobra REPLICA". what channel is this crappy show on, you look as comfortable as a lobster getting thrown in pot....I live on long island i'll spice up that show email me tell me when i start...thanks tim

It's not on a channel. It's on the internet. Where you watched it.

    Tips for the future:
Make a script or a checklist.
    Conduct actual tests and measurements.
Find better people to place in front of the camera/talk.
    This video was indeed useless.
  • MattF NYMC (guest) wrote in reply on April 18, 7:15 pm:
Would you call running both cars on the Dyno "actual tests" because that's what we do on the next episode.

Mat, Mat, Mat, i'm thinking ur an STI guy, lol. like u said the EVO VS. STI wars have been going on for years now, and i dont think anyone's gonna win out, cuz although alike in some ways, their really 2 different cars, i'm an Evo guy myself, but ova all i'm a car guy so i can appreciate somethings that the sti has that the evo doesnt, for exmaple the more upscale interior, and the short throw. howeva, it all comes down to performace and there the CHEAPER {have to put that in bold cuz i think it plays a factor in why the evo's interior is less upscale than the sti's} always wins out. it was always a lil more difficult to pick a winner on the exterior styling on the now older models, but now that they've changed the STI, its more a matter of if ur a hatch back kinda guy or not, cuz i'm hearing a lot of my STI guys saying the evo wins out on that front and these r guys that would rather be kick'd in the balls than say the evo wins out in anything ova the STI. i've c'n both new cars in person and personally, i'm still on the Evo IX MR, howeva if i had to pick between the 2 new ones i'ma have to go with the EVO, cheaper, better looking {at least to me} and u'd still fry an STI any day. lol. on a side note i saw the NYC motor club role out video on VODcars, that kitt'd out M5 and the blacked out M6 withe the yellow accents, GOD!!!!! SSssssickness!!!!!!, i cried, lol. def need to do a show with those 2 cars.

I would like to see some track testing with the Sti and Evo X. Most testers from websites and reputable car magazines have the Sti around 0.92-0.93g’s and the Evo from 0.97-0.98g’s (they all rave of its supercar like grip). Car and Driver had the Evo X MR with the duel-clutch tranny getting a better lap time than the 5-speed Evo X and the Sti (the Sti came last overall).

This might be tough to do, because it seems like the Sti on this show is already modified. Nevertheless, it seems the Evo X has won all the other reviewer's tests, so I am wondering if guys such as yourselves will achieve similar results.
  • apathyfades (guest) wrote in reply on April 29, 2:38 pm:
Yeah, the Evo kills the STI on the track, but these are rally cars. Pit them against each other on a mountain road a la Japanese style Touge and see which one's faster on uneven and undulating surfaces. I think the STI would rule in that department. Just look at any rally event and the STIs dominate the podiums.
