The Garage

Car enthusiasts do their own research through the forums, blogs, and magazines. Garage419 isn't here to be the source of car information like CNN is for current events. Debates, biased reviews, and straight forward interviews are just some of the things to expect on '419.

Cool episode... now thats a good car. I am tired of all these "high end cars" full of plastics. I mean if your paying 100k or more for a car there shouldn't be an ounce of plastic on the thing.

The industrial back beat needs to be toned down in the video. I'm reminded of how the NiN soundtrack for the original Quake game got old real fast.

    Whoa. That Iconic is SICK!!!!

The GTR is a very beautiful car, i liked it from the very first time i saw it. but i have to say 600 thousand is a lil steap dont u think??? 300 thousand maybe but 600 for a car that looks like a cross between a Solstice and a cobra witha front lip. I know with rides like this its the performance and Subtleties like the gas tank and the turn signals in the roll bars.{which by the way r 2 kool} and so on and so on that really make the difference. But i cant help but feel like for 600 thousand u need a car that gets a lil more of a drop jaw effect on the lay person on the street. great example, while i was watching this my brother {who isnt a car guy by the way} looks ova and goes Wow thats a nice looking cobra Micheal, but i didnt think those things were worth so much. then of course i had to pull him closer and point out all that things that make the Iconic GTR, a car on its own and hence y its worth so much, and even then he goes dude still looks like a cobra to me, sooooo not worth the money. Just saying that with hyper cars in the same price range like Koenigseg's and saleens u always get that drop jaw factor where eva u go. not to say that, thats whats important, but it is nice to know that ur 600 thousand dollar car will get the 600 thousand dollar reaction where eva u go and not get mistaken for a "cheaper" car. i guess this car is really gear'd to ppl like us, ppl that can tell the differece between a GT2 and GT3 or the differece between a gallardo and superleggera even without the logo on the door. ppl that care more about performace and functionality than looks per-say. all that said it is a great looking car. great show.

I agree with both sides of the equation. On one hand, it's hard to justify 600 grand for a car whose performance characteristics haven't been verified, and that does resemble a poorly done Cobra replica. On the other hand, the engine is an absolute work of art and costs $100,000 by itself! Secondly, every part of the Iconic is unique to the Iconic. They don't re-use switches or anything from any other car. With the exception of wiring harnesses, there is no plastic anywhere in the car at all. And think about it: Power hood, power fuel door, power trunk and doors, and air conditioned seats in a car that weighs 2,300 lbs? That's pretty impressive at any price. Don't get me wrong, if I had 600 large to throw around, I'd buy a Carrera GT, A Nissan GTR, and a Cayenne Turbo and call it a day, but I'm willing to bet that there are more than a few people out there who really would be happy to spend 600 grand on an exceptionally well engineered and re-invented version of the Shelby Cobra. And the car really does look very nice in person. The downforce kit front and rear is highly functional; they claim 600lbs downforce at 175 mph, whereas my '65 Cobra gets really light in the front end at over 120. And, I've seen SSC Ultimate Aero's and Saleen S7's up close and personal. The interior, engine styling, and level of fit and finish of this car blows those cars out of the water by leaps and bounds. Either way, I thought it was cool enough to take a ride down there and share with you guys.

id love to have or see a lil spot on that gt40 behind the iconic!

    amazing car though

And why was the bulk of the episode shot at the ass of the car?
  • Turboman (guest) wrote on April 4, 12:30 pm:
Great episode, great car, great idea behind the car!!!Well, maybe the front with the aerokit doesn't look that cooll than the front of a cobra...
But did you had a bad hairday Mr. Farah?

I must say that this car makes you think. The innovation is magnificent. I have always been a fan of the Cobra. That being said the price tag is a bit steep, but you get what you pay for. Matt you need to take more road trips dude. Now as for how many Idiots with more cash than driving skills will destroy these magnificent bastards, your guess is as good as mine. GREAT SHOW

lol, i hear u Matt but the agruement their trynna make doesnt hold water. the motor is a work of art, i'll give em that and the interior with the heated and cooled seats with the speakers in em are kool, howeva it has been done and not even in cars thats r ova 150 thousand, like the Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG and bmw 7 series u get power trunk power doors that pretty much close themself, heated and cooled and massage seats, night vision cam. front and rear while u dive, and so on and so on, point being the gadgets although impressive and nice to have in a sports cars, isnt anything new, that said lets tally everything. the motor as u said and i agree is beautiful and seems to be well put together so lets give that 100 thousand, the interior which is also nice, will also through 100 thousand at that, even tho i'm sure it wouldnt cost that much, we r talking a 2 seater here, then for all the power doors, trunk, hood, gas tank and just the exceptional craftsmanship and worksmanship all around will through another 100 thousand at em, now whats our total??? 300 thousand, so lets say thats about the cost to build a car like this, give or take afew then of course u gotta make a profit, so we'll through another 100 thousand their way. so the way i see it at the very most that car should be worth 400 thousand which still is pretty high but far better and much more reasonable and dare i say even a lil more "practical" than 600 thousand. but hey, whateva, even at 400 thousand that thing would be too rich for my blood. lol.

Don't forget the entirely carbon fiber body, the custom made glass and headlamps/taillights, the machined billet pieces, jeweled gauge covers, and the several thousand hours of labor that went into building the car. I'm guessing that it will cost Iconic $450,000 to build each one, which, if it sells at $600,000, is par for the course in exotic car profit margins.

    hmmmmm, maybe.

    Automatic fuel door?

I guess you'll need that being an American car. You'll fill it up often.. :p

Thanks for showing stuff like this. I enjoyed it.
