The Garage

Car enthusiasts do their own research through the forums, blogs, and magazines. Garage419 isn't here to be the source of car information like CNN is for current events. Debates, biased reviews, and straight forward interviews are just some of the things to expect on '419.

I hope to god there is no American version of Top Gear. Seriously, we as Americans have what.....2-maybe ok lets even say 5 decent cars. Two if you really want to get technical.Vett and Viper, and those are not saying much.US cars suck, and we all know it. TOp Gear shoudl stay over seas. Those three just make that show. They have good, funny chemistry that can't be duplicated and they all can drive. Come on, Leno, Seinfield. THose guys can't drive worth shit, and you know it. I hate how we as Americans always think we can do it better, anad the simple truth is, is we can't just let well enough alone......END RANT! Peace. Love the site.. I want a job working there!! Pronto

excuse me but if you look past your everyday sedan and truck market and say fuck the tuner you have the vette viper dare i say it charger challneger ford has the gt the mustangs and the covers 8 if you count all the different mustang varients so if you think U.S. cars suck then you dont have the money to buy the good ones and that is the problem

I really agrea with you guys on the top gear topic. I also don't think any one can do the same, but I think they can do there own thing.

woochhh spelt{lodz}, lol makes sence they'd let them race there sounds like the sound a of a turbo going off, witha after market {BOV} hahaha

aight so there are a couple of things wrong with the new knight rider show. Even after factoring in that i was like.... i dont know, 5 or 7 when i saw the orginal show and things seem much kooler and awesome then, lol. we're all much older and much wiser i'm sure. i mean i can deal with the whole product placement thing. if, like u guys were talking about, they didnt have things like a ford edge keeping with a KR, {the Majority of they're demographic for that show r car guys, who did they think they were gonna fool with that one??? or did they think we just wouldnt notice???}and this isnt a stock KR its KITT a car that can supposedly do ova 200mph and handles like crazy. pare it with a ford GT or something. the ford edge could keep witha stock mustang GT let alone a KR let alone if we're immersing ourself into the story and believing the car is really KITT, so that was LAME. also i figured they could take it some place kool with all the technology we've got these days making a car of the future look and seem real isnt that hard, but they half assed it. the CGI was average at best and that made things suck for me. if ur gonna do the CGI thing then go all out and make it look as real as it can, transformers style u know?? other wise lets stick to what works, and whats with the same shot of the same Winding road with different camera filters??? is their budget that low or is gas just too high??? maybe if i was 5 again i wouldnt have noticed and it woulda been kool. with all that sad i'm not writing the show off just yet cuz for me they did do one thing right.. the third paddle for when KiTT goes into manual mode, now that i didnt expect. i was wishing and hoping they'd do something about that and they did, so that was kool, i always hated the fact that KITT was an automatic although i understood y that had to be {its just much much eazier to control a real car by remote if its an automatic} but even still it took away kool points in my opinion. all in all new knight rider gets a 4 outta 10 we'll c if they can be bumped up somehow.

Top gear america, what can i say here that hasnt already been said??? nothing can replace that show. but if their gonna do it i think they sould get Matt to be a host.

Cannonball Challenge guy is a douch bag what a fucking dumb ass he's gaonna get erryone in the race arrested.

I don't get why everyone is freaking out about ford raping KR, did anybody see Transformers? 90 mins of Chev that cost me $10. At least KR was free

I liked the format of this episode, good job Matt and Mike!

One thing that you failed to bring up was that the Viper's exhaust still sounds like a UPS truck. :D I must admit since my early years with car when the Viper was announced, it has always been one of my favorites because it's such a raw American beast. Its lack of refinement was always what made it so intriguing, and I'm sure makes it hard to compete with Corvettes and Euro/Jap cars these days.

Before anyone knocks on the Viper they ought to go to Viper Days or any Viper club track meet and you'll see the fans out there. They were mostly a bunch of grumpy old men, but they were pretty damn quick!
  • Mike (anon) wrote on March 4, 7:27 pm:
This show is unorganized... With the cannonball run - the main issue discussed should be it destroys automotive culture....and they should straight up say that...not make side talk about it. get to the point. thats my opinion.

wtf is up with the smooshed show QA anyone?
  • CraigLieberman (anon) wrote on March 6, 11:48 am:
Loved your insights on Top Gear and especially, Knight Rider.

I imagine that Ford stepped up because there's no Trans Am anymore but either way, seems a bit of a large departure from the original.

    Keep up the good work!

I like this show even more than FLD.

Please do more interviews like this.
Now that I figured out how to use my Ipod, I love just listening (and watching) those interviews on the go.
The interviews are great, because I don't have to look at the screen, so I can play it over my car stereo.

Much better than most Podcasts I found so far.

Keep up the awesomely great work!!!

It didn't seem that either person was too informed as to the issues being discussed and they treat people as though they were idiots. A Viper, hard to control because it doesn't have traction control? Come now, you're getting spoiled Farah. And the Cannonball bit, I went to the website and no where on the site does it say that it's a race, where are you getting your info from?
  • MattF NYMC (anon) wrote in reply on March 10, 12:28 pm:
I don't know if you've ever driven a Viper or Ford GT in the rain, but I have, and I can tell you that a rear wheel drive, 500 horsepower car with 13 inch rear tires and no traction control is pretty scary, and driving a viper close to the limit on anything less than perfect roads is not for the faint of heart. It's nowhere near as scary as my cobra, but then again, there are way too many greased up idiots getting into Vipers and wrapping them around telephone poles.

As for the web site, he changed it after this bit ran and after a little sit down I had with the guy and Alex Roy.

Here is the thread Mr. Massie posted in an attempted spam on my board, you'll see what I mean:
